The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission, LASIEC, meets with the leadership of political parties in Lagos, as the commission intensifies its preparation towards the success of July 24th local government and local council development areas elections in Lagos State.
The meeting, which was well attended by the representatives of political parties in Lagos State, provided the parties a platform to ask questions on areas which needs clarification from the election guidelines handed over to them by the commission.
In his welcome address, the chairperson of the commission, Hon. Justice Ayotunde Philips (Rtd.), reiterated the commission preparedness for a smooth, credible and transparent elections in the 20 local government and 37 LCDAs in Lagos State.
Speaking through one of the officials of the commission, Justice Philips (Rtd.) said that the commission has taken into cognizance the current situation ravaging the world, and the commission has made extra preparation for eligible voters during the election period.
“In line with the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission, LASIEC, law 2008 as amended, notice of election had been published on The Punch, The Nation and Vanguard Newspapers respectively, in accordance to section 21 (1) of LASIEC Law.
“The second phase of the notice is to handover the guidelines to all political parties, which is due for publication in the dailies. It is in respect of this that you were all invited as part of our strategic consultation to rub minds on the pathway to all-inclusive and peaceful electioneering process.”
Justice Ayotunde Philips (Rtd.) assured that the commission shall continue to build strong partnership with critical stakeholders, such as, political parties, media organizations, civil societies, non-governmental organization (NGOs), security agencies, community and religious leaders and Market associations in other to ensure maximum participations.
The commission also pledged to remain impartial to all parties.
The political parties’ representatives asked questions, and the commission’s officials responded and urged all concerned to take the message to their members for wider publicity.
Political parties present are; APC, AAC, ADP, LP, ADC, ZLP, AA, PDP among others.
