A Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, Segun Adewale, on Saturday decried high level of anti-party activities by some members and executives of the party in the state.
Adewale, popular known as Aeroland spoke with newsmen in Lagos at PDP Secretariat following the purported suspension of Lagos PDP Chairman, Mr Adedeji Doherty by the State Executive members on Friday.
The chieftain said that party needed to remove those who were working indirectly for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state to make progress and win elections in Lagos.
“About 60 per cent of PDP members are working for APC, that is the problem. The opposition has planted people in this party. Every four years, we keep having this problem over and over again.
“It is not as if PDP has been losing, PDP has been defeating APC but we have 60 per cent of our members even among the excos working indirectly with APC.
“That is the problem, I pray we get it right this time around,” Adewale said.
On the purported suspension of Doherty as the Chairman of Lagos PDP, Adewale said that the excesses of the chairman needed to be curtailed to bring the party on track.
The chieftain alleged that the suspended chairman had converted the party to his personal business and engaging in activities capable of further polarising the party.
According to him, there was no plan taken by the chairman to defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
Adewale said that the party at this stage needed no divisive tendency but a united front that would attract more people into the party.
He decried involvement of the chairman in the Southwest politics of the party, where some individuals were attacked the only PDP governor in the zone, Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State.
Adewale said that the party needed a chairman that would bring every members together.
“Engineer Doherty has derailed. We fought Chief Bode George to bring Doherty in but he got in there and become a lord on his own, misbehaving and fraternising with certain individuals working for opposition.
“If we have a chairman that aligns with the those working for the opposition, it means we have got results for 2023 elections,” he added.
He commended all members fighting for justice in PDP.
“Unlike before when it would be only mean fighting for justice in PDP, now people are waking up for justice in the party and that we need to win Lagos for the suffering masses in 2023.
He expressed hope that the national leadership of the party would wake up and do the right thing in the state chapter of the party.
