The Ikeja Golden Lions Club has provided free eye glasses for Ogba residents and its environs in Lagos State as part of measure to minimize and eradicate blindness in our society as the world marks World Sight Day across the globe.
Speaking at the event, the immediate past President of the Club Lion Nike Ayepe said “this has been our yearly routine for twelve months you have to organize this program before you hand-over to another person as a president, obviously government can’t cover the whole people therefore as an organization we also contributing our qouta to humanity. Nothing that this same program goes round the club even at a district on a day like this, we have sponsored so many visually impaired people and we still sponsoring” I’m highly impressed looking at the turn out today.
Also speaking, Lion Sidikat Balogun, the zone Chairperson of the club said one of our key vision as a club is to restore eyes to people and this program is an annual event, we have done this several locations where there’s need to help, we are always happy servicing humanity. I must say today’s program is a huge success. she stressed.
The current President of the Club in Ikeja District, Lion Kemisola Afuye said “as we all know every October is been tagged as world sight day and that was why our club came up with the idea of creating awareness about eyes and thereby render the little assistance we can in our own capacity, we don’t just give glasses will have our specialist that’s optometrist and optician who conduct text for the beneficiary before been given glasses.”
She further said, some people where recommended for drugs why some for surgery, “our club foot the bills for drug and share part of the one for surgery with the family of the affected person because we all know it’s expensive to embark on surgery. We have attended to over three hundred people here today although we made provision for over five hundreds because that’s what we are meant to do as a club. Since I emerged president in July there’s no month we don’t carry out one empowerment programme or the other because that’s our duty even in the face of pandemic since July till date we have been helping people in different ways.” Afuye said.
Among the beneficiary was Mr. Yinka Oshindele he expressed his joy “I knew I have issues with my sight and when I had about this free eye test and glasses I quickly grabbed the must confesopportunity. I am happy to be one of the lucky person here today”.
The event which took place at Oluwole City Hall Ogba Lagos has over hundreds of beneficiaries and it was tagged “Sight First”.
The Chairperson of the event Lion Bola Fagunsoye however express her profound gratitude to the members and the people of Ogba for there cooperations while calling on Nigerians to continue to extends of love to the less privilege in the society.
