As it was in the beginning when God light up the world, the resourceful youths of Arowolo, Shodeinde and Popoola Streets teamed up together to illuminate their community.
As light covers darkness, it also gives confidence to the people who reside around the illuminated area and help to further strengthen the security of lives and properties. As many people residing within the area can now go to bed with their two eyes closed believing the community has no hidden place for criminals.
These were the feelers gotten from the residents of Arowolo Street in Abule Egba on Sunday as member of Lagos State House of Assembly, representing Ifako-Ijaiye constituency 02, Hon. Rasheed Lanre Makinde commissioned about 700 meters street lights powered by the youths of the community.
Speaking on how resources were put together to ensure the project was successful, the youth coordinator, Mr. Adeyemi Adekanbi, popularly known as Lagbaja, said, tenants, landlords and business owners in the community contributed token to make this project a reality. And also appreciates everyone present at the event especially the Arowolos and the Sodeinde families for their support and Oyebanjo family who donated 1 big generator to power the street lights.
“We were resolute in achieving this, we decided not to approach any political officer holders, we know by the time they saw how far we have gone they will commend us and assist us in making sure the project gather more momentum. We have succeeded in this through our passion and resolve for community development and secondly the fear of security poised by the 1million boys has make us think outside the box to first and foremost ensure our community is light up, so that we can see clearly see anybody coming to rub us off our belongings. We thank God for the success of this project and we have resolved to continue on this path for the development of our community and even beyond.” Adeyemi said.
Corroborating the speech of the coordinator, the Secretary Mr. Bankole Samuel appreciated the people’s representative at the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Makinde for identifying with the community. He highlighted his contributions to the community which includes borehole projects, different food items as palliatives during lockdown, free ICT training which is still ongoing, free jamb form for qualified students of the constituency, and many others.
“It is joy unlimited for us to have achieved this great feat, it took us serious planning and to the glory of God, it’s now a reality before us all.” Mr. Bankole concluded.
Commending the youths for coming together to make a landmark despite the pandemic ravaging the world which Nigeria is not exempted, Hon. Makinde said, it shows the youth and every individual who contributed to the success of the project worth giving a high degree of commendations.
“I am indeed happy with the youth of this community, though some youths had done something similar in some areas but Arowolo, Shodeinde street lights project is unique as it is coming at the time people no longer think of development, rather only what they want to eat as Covid-19 has paralyzed businesses globally. This shows the level of passion the good people of this community have for their own environment.” Hon. Makinde commended
