Following the stay-at-home order by both Federal and the Lagos State Governments, on residents, in order to contain and flatten the curve of the spread of the Coronavirus Scourge, Executive Chairman, Ifako- Ijaiye Local Government, Apostle Oloruntoba Oke is set to unveil his emergency food package stimulus for residents through their elected Councillor’s from each ward via Community Development Associations( CDA’s) and the most vulnerable in the Council area tomorrow, Sunday, 5 April, 2020.
The stimulus, which comes in food packs, to be officially distributed to every ward in the local government is aimed at mitigating and cushioning the effect of the fourteen day Stay- at- home directive.
Speaking while preparation being made for the official launch tomorrow, Oke said, the emergency food package stimulus seeks to reduce the burden of the emphemeral economic downturn on the good people of Ifako- Ijaiye local government caused by the global outbreak of COVID-19.
The Council Czar said the food packs, Which was Put together by the Executive, Management and Legislative arm of the local government will reach some of the most vulnerable households in each ward across the Council area who rely on daily wages will be given priority.
He said, we are embarking on the emergency food package program as a stimulus package since we are all aware that this is a challenging and trying time for our people and due to partial drop in economic activities, Our administration deemed it imperative to reach out to residents across all the seven wards of the local government.
The Chairman stated that the package will touch about 2000 households or family initially, harping that the food packs contain Rice, Beans, Garri and Semovita as our own little way of ensuring we flatten the curve just so our advocacy around stay at home, stay with your loved ones will be respected.
“This is an emergency situation that require a catalytic initiative by our administration with the hope that well meaning corporate organizations , Non Governmental Organizations and Private individuals can step up to complement the effort of the local government akin to what our representative at the Lagos House of Assembly has done some few days ago” Toba Oke said.
He, further cautioned that residents should remember there is a higher risk of spreading COVID-19 through movement and travel, adding “ residents are implored to stay at home and avoid all essential movement and travel”, he said.
